What Happened to Fred?

This booklet is written by one of our own Englewoodians. Betty Doyle has put together a personal account of Fred, a blue heron that befriended her (despite Joe) and then went missing. We all have a story we want to share with others, maybe several, maybe more than that. What Betty Doyle has done is put one of her stories on paper, complete with photos, to capture the reader's attention and bring the story more fully to life.

There aren't many pages to the booklet, and not many words either, but that doesn't detract from the tale at all. In fact, it's a very nice way to tell the story of Fred the Blue Heron. More importantly, it tells the story of how Betty managed to get past her intense fear of birds in order to befriend Fred. Fred and Betty trusted one another and enjoyed their encounters (or else why would he keep coming back with Joe scaring him?)

When Fred failed to return to Englewood and Betty and Joe's yard, they watched and worried. They wondered what had become of Fred. Betty has even included some photos suggesting his whereabouts and reasons for not returning. I won't tell you what they are, they're just too much fun to miss!

Betty and Joe live in Englewood. Betty enjoys writing, and acknowledges members of a Writing Group as those who assisted her in the production of this story. Betty's other publications include Savoring the Past (2002), Life Stories Remembered (2006), and My Life Story - Me, Then and Now (2006). This story was edited and printed at Hartmans' Print Center of Englewood, Florida.

Jill does laundry for a 7 year old who thinks he's too old for toys, a 5 year old gymnast, a 5 year old niece who has joined the family, and a 3 year old computer whiz. She also occasionally irons her husband's suits. In between loads, Jill loves to read.
