LEMON BAY FEST SCHEDULE
The Lemon Bay Fest, “Englewood History with a Little Zest,” will run Saturday, February 3 – Saturday, February 10 in various locations around Englewood. SATURDAY, FEB. 3
10:30am The Great Florida Invasion: From Pythons to Pepper. Florida author Charles Sobczack will take an in-depth look at a wide array of species that have invaded Florida over the past 100 years. Elsie Quirk Library meeting room.
10:30am. Getting Started with Genealogy. Genealogy expert Sue Davis discusses her experience with building a family tree and helps you get started on one of your own. Englewood Charlotte Library meeting room.
2pm. American Roots Music Roadshow. Lisa Brande and Mark Trichka with Easy Street Duo present an upbeat program featuring bluegrass, old-time, country, Cajun and zydeco. Elsie Quirk Library meeting room.

10:30am. Oh, Florida! Florida couldn’t be Florida without that sense of the unpredictable, unexpected, and unusual lurking behind every palm tree. Join Tampa Bay Times columnist Craig Pitman as he discusses his book “Oh, Florida!” Elsie Quirk Library meeting room.
2pm and 5pm. Patrick Smith’s Florida: A Sense of Place. This film includes fascinating stories of Patrick Smith’s life, adventures, experiences and Florida’s past which led the author to write his novel, “A Land Remembered.” Elsie Quirk Library meeting room.

10:30am. Florida’s Shipwreck Preserves: Living Maritime Heritage You Can Visit. Featuring Florida’s Museums in the Sea, historic shipwrecks that have been interpreted for snorkelers and divers to educate citizens and visitors about the real treasure of Florida’s shipwreck history. 10:30am. Dr. Mary Green and the Lemon Bay Mother’s Club. In 1918, Dr. Mary Green organized the Lemon Bay Mother’s Club, which is known today as the Lemon Bay Woman’s Club. Learn about Dr. Green’s vital role in the organization and community. Elsie Quirk Library meeting room.

2pm. Cracker: The Last Cowboys of Florida. For more than 250 years, cowboys have ridden the plains of central Florida. This film captures the beauty of the old ways with the drama of encroaching civilization. Elsie Quirk Library meeting room.

10:30-11:30am. History of the Boca Grande Lighthouse. Local artist Patti Middleton discusses the history of the Boca Grande Lighthouse with her sketches and paintings of the area. Englewood Charlotte Library meeting room.
10:30am. Sea Turtles in Manasota Key. Join Carol Leonard from the Coastal Wildlife Club as she talks about Manasota Key sea turtles and how you can help protect them. Elsie Quirk Library meeting room.

SATURDAY, FEB. 10
10am - 4pm. Cracker Fair and Lemon Dessert Contest. Festivities at Dearborn Street Plaza, 300 block W Dearborn, for the whole family: games, crafts, artists, music, food vendors, cowboys and more! Charlotte Co. Museum Society will be cooking swamp cabbage, the heart of the cabbage palm. There are also plans for a cast-net-throwing demonstration and a visit by an owl from the Peace River Wildlife Center. “Englewood the First 100 Years” will be on sale at the Historical Society tent along with “Save the Church” T-shirts. Fair presented by the Lemon Bay Historical Society at Dearborn Street Plaza on W. Dearborn Street.

10-11am. Lemon Dessert Contest entries accepted.
10am - 1pm. Book Signing. Tom Newton will be signing the new “Englewood: The First 100 Years, 2nd Edition” at the Lemon Bay Historical Society tent.
10:15pm. Cracker Whip Demonstration by Bit of Hope Ranch.
10:45am. Music by The Fiddle Crabs with Les Caraher (time approx.)
11am. Judging for Lemon Dessert Baking Contest
Noon. Baking contest winners announced.
12:30 – 1:30pm. Music by the Fiddle Crabs with country blues, tin pan alley and traditional bluegrass.
2 - 4pm. Classic Country Music with John Tuff and Friends.
