Laser Dry Fire To Hone and Keep Your Skills

Do you own a gun? How often do you hit the range to practice? Did you know that shooting is a deteriorating skill and in as little as one week without practicing, the average shooter’s skill can diminish by 20%? Most of us don’t have the time or the money to practice at a range as often as necessary to maintain the ability to safely handle a gun and keep up target accuracy.

Kustom Firearms of Englewood has a solution – dry fire laser simulation training. In the comfort of your own home, you can practice at any time and there is no range fee or ammunition cost. The shop carries a laser training system called L.A.S.R. (laser activated shot reporter.) This is a computer software program that, with a webcam, can pick up your target on a wall and display the results after firing with a laser cartridge in your gun. You can practice without the distraction of other gun noise at a range, a big plus if you are startled by another gun firing. There are five fundamentals of shooting – aiming, breath control, hold control, trigger control and follow through and you are able to concentrate and include all five when you are using the laser training system. This builds your muscle memory so you have the skill to shoot accurately when you need to.

Owner Karl Thatcher also offers a basic pistol concealed carry class that teaches basic shooting skills with the required certification to apply for your concealed carry license. The class focuses on learning the gun parts, how to safely load and unload, gun safety education, practice time using the dry fire laser system to learn how to hit your target and followed by live shooting at a gun range. If you are new to guns and feel a little intimidated, this is the perfect safe setting to acquaint yourself. There are plans to offer a women’s advanced concealed carry class with chances to practice in dummy life situations and also a home protection shotgun and pistol class where you learn ways to protect your home and yourself in the home environment.

Karl is a certified NRA instructor and FFL (federal firearms licensed) dealer. His mission statement for the business is to train people on the rules about gun safety: always point in a safe direction, keep the gun unloaded until ready to use, keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire and also be aware of what or who might be beyond your target. Karl is passionate about educating gun users about gun safety.

How many times do you read about a child finding a gun and accidentally discharging it? Karl also is available to educate children about gun safety using the Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program for grades pre-K through 4th grade. The NRA program is a gun accident prevention program created in 1988 to teach children what to do if they ever come across a gun: Stop, Don’t Touch, Run Away and Tell a Grown-Up. If you would like to find out more about this program for a group or as a parent, contact Karl at 475-2737.
