The Hawaiian dancers enticed the guests to join them in this photo.

On Saturday, January 27th, EARS Animal Rescue hosted a Hawaiian Luau at the Englewood VFW Post 10178. It was a sold-out event with approximately 220 people who came out to support pets in need. The Luau was a fun-filled afternoon and kicked off with a great presentation by Peace River Search and Rescue who did a presentation on the front lawn of the VFW. Paul Cottrell donated his musical talents and entertained the crowd all afternoon. A BBQ buffet was served with chicken cooked by John Bass and pulled pork donated by Gary Hines. Gary and Alan Adamson smoked and tended to the pork all day. Homeschoolers Girl Scout Troop 419 volunteered to help serve the food. Hula Connection of SW Florida performed and also provided a short lesson in hula dancing for those who wanted to learn. Everyone dressed in their best Luau outfit, and some competed in the costume contest. The community showed their support with the amazing raffle items donated: 18 raffle baskets, 4 silent auction items and a wagon filled with over $800 in booze. The big winner of the day was Bobbi Austin. She won the booze wagon and the 50/50 raffle. Bobbi donated the raffle money she won back to EARS. The event was sponsored by K-9 Carts, Quick Signs, Kristen and Glenn Martin, and one anonymous sponsor. EARS director, Todd Zimmerman, said, “A great time was had by all, and we look forward to doing it again next year.” Learn more about EARS at earsanimalrescue.com.
