On Sunday, January 14th, the Rotary Club of Englewood hosted a Drag Queen Bingo at the Englewood Elks Club. Drag Queen Bianca L’Amour engaged the crowd immediately and had everyone laughing, singing and dancing for three hours of fun. Ten rounds of Bingo were played with cash prizes that ranged from $30 to $125 and had dance-offs for games in which more than one person yelled “Bingo!” A very popular 50/50 raffle and 19 individually donated silent auction items helped to raise money to enable the Rotary Club the opportunity to continue funding community service projects such as Adopt a Family @ Christmas, providing swim lessons and water safety education at the YMCA to prevent children from drowning, sending boxes of much-needed personal items to soldiers serving the U.S., providing dictionaries to third grade students at local elementary schools, donating food and monetary assistance to the Jubilee Center Food Pantry, assisting On-The-Spot Nursing by providing funding to help them serve area homeless population, and working with local environmental groups to install vertical oyster gardens to clean the local waterways. These are just a few of the many projects The Rotary Club of Englewood supports. If you are interested in learning first-hand what the club does, please feel free to attend a meeting on Tuesdays at noon at the Englewood Chamber of Commerce, 601 S. Indiana Avenue. You may find that there is a spot for YOU!
