Grandmother's Bedtime Stories Book 5

By Jill Williams

This is a collection of short stories for children. As indicated by the title, it is the author's fifth book of children's stories. In this edition, we meet some very interesting animals, for most of the stories are told from an animal's point of view. We even get to see the hidden life of rocks, in one of my favorite pieces in the book. Each tale brings a bit of fun and often a life lesson to the listener (because really it's meant for you to read to young children) and encourages discussion. Some of the stories are very short, but others are developed enough that kids will cheer for their furry (or feathered, etc) buddies as they go on adventures.

The illustrations at the beginning of each story are delightful, and we are even given a glimpse of the author's family in the center of the book where their pictures are prominently displayed. No wonder she's so proud of them, they're all adorable! What better reason to write such sweet children's stories than for one's own great-grandchildren? I can picture a grandparent snuggling up with a little one on their lap, reading about the lesson Lizzy Lizard learned when she didn't listen to her parents' warning. These stories are an excellent opportunity to spend quality time with the little children in your life.

Many self-published books are full of typographical errors, or if they have been proofread, the characters are flat or the pictures are scarcely something that would stir emotion. In this case, the author has done a great job of editing her stories, included adorable pictures (including some of her great-grandchildren) and has characters that have enough substance to keep the reader's attention. It was a pleasure to read this book, and I would eagerly read another of this author's works.

Jill does laundry for a 7 year old who thinks he's too old for toys, a 5 year old gymnast, a 5 year old niece who has joined the family, and a 3 year old computer whiz. She also occasionally irons her husband's suits. In between loads, Jill loves to read.
