Merry Christmas & Happy New Year, Englewood
This year I would love to write about Santa’s falling poll numbers, the North Pole’s vaccination rates, elf gender fluidity, (I always wondered about those green tights), toy factory supply chain issues, and the alarming rate of “too fat to fly” obese reindeer, but I’m duty bound to end the year on another topic. Bummer.
Here goes. Did you know that The Old Englewood Village Association (OEVA), is a community-based organization, established in 1985, that remains committed to building a stronger town by working with our fellow non-profits, local leaders, organizations, associations, and residents? Don’t worry if you didn’t, very few locals even know. OEVA supports a diverse mix of interests ranging from community revitalization, management, beautification, arts, promotions, social, cultural, to recreational services. Their goal, with your help, is to make Englewood an even better place to live? To learn more you should visit the OEVA web site at www.OldEnglewood.com and browse the home page to catch up and learn. There you will find a main menu that, with your indulgence, I would like to review with you.
Blogs: Staying locally connected and informed is even easier with our new Blog. It has automated links and feeds that are impressive that continue to grow in both content and categories. We can even absorb other organizations newsletters automatically if they want!

Upcoming Events: A linked interactive calendar service that continues to grow.
Classes in the Arts: If you have a talent, teach a class, or offer a service you would like to share with the public.
Our Businesses: A growing directory of local businesses and services.
Englewood History: A fun collection of Englewood’s history.
About Us: All you ever wanted to know about OEVA and then some.
Request an Artist: Where you can contact community artists.
Contact Us: Ask a question, or just leave a comment.
Now the interesting part for us locals, OEVA’s 2022 goals. OEVA remains committed in our quest to unite the town’s non-profits. Those relationships will bridge our collective strengths and help us all save human and financial resources. The reason behind this idea is that when the Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) Advisory Board, retires in 2029, we need to be ready, united, even excited about promoting and managing our downtown.
In 2022 OEVA will continue to build a world class website with the interactive and automated potential to serve our members and our community well into the future.
Surveys: this is exciting. With the help of our CRA, OEVA continues to grow a database of involved residents that through creative e-mail surveys can share their thoughts and governance ideas on timely community topics. The statistical and interactive possibilities are endless and exciting.
Other lingering community sourced ideas include the Art Alley concept that is already developing thanks to some creative businesses. John Munn’s pop-up music concept “PUMA” could be expanded by offering pop-up artists services as well. OEVA is soon to actively begin building a request an artist or musician page.
Still in the works is the Englewood Arts District committee that continues to support the Residential Commercial Transition Overlay District, RCTOD. This area promises to become a very hip walking arts district in the future. Finally, OEVA will continue to support the Halloween Safewalk, the Christmas Walk and sponsor or support what we can in the new year.
To do this and more, we’ll need your help. Please visit www.OldEnglewood.com, click on either the “Join Us” or Volunteer tab as we are developing our volunteer process flow now, and help us make 2022 a year to remember.
Thanks for hanging in there. Next year, I promise to follow up on the obese reindeer rumors, and dive into why Rudolf’s nose is always red this time of year. Until then, Happy New Year everyone!
