LBHS January Athletes of the Month

The Lemon Bay High School Athletic Department has announced their January, 2024 winners of the Athlete of the Month and the Sportsmanship Awards. 

The Athletes of the Month are: Maya Collins, junior, Girls Basketball, and Owen Tannehill, senior, Boys Weightlifting.

Owen finished first in both Olympic and Traditional divisions at the season opening Tarpon Invitational. Owen is a great leader and fantastic student. 




Maya Collins

Maya averaged 20.5 points per game, 4.5 assists per game, and 6.7 steals per game in the month of January for the Lady Mantas. She also became the seventh Lady Manta to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career. Maya also became the all-time leader in assists and steals. She was named the SunPreps Player of the Week.




Congratulations, also, to these students for receiving Honorable Mention for Athlete of the Month: Girls Basketball: Mackenzie Long (junior); Girls Soccer: Madison Tieu (sophomore), Sofia Ferjiani (junior), Izzy Ragazzone (senior), Sophia Sweiderk (junior), and Kenzie Martin (junior); Girls Weightlifting: Emily Atherholt (freshman), Alex Harris (senior), Tee Williams (senior), and Emily Szaflarski (senior); Girls Wrestling: Ailee Briggs (freshman); Boys Weightlifting: AJ Hua (junior); and Boys Wrestling: Jack Oliver (junior), Logan Kelly (senior). The January Sportsmanship Award winner is Mackenzie Long, junior, Girls Basketball.

Mackenzie has been the ultimate teammate and leader for the Lady Mantas. Mackenzie is one of the captains for Lemon Bay and is always around to help others. She exemplifies what it means to be a Lady Manta. She carries herself with great humility and always thinking of others before she thinks about herself. Mackenzie is a leader in the classroom, the locker room, and the community.
