Dear Dottie,

Dottie
Canine Contributor

Dear Readers,

The Fifth Annual Tennis Ball to benefit the Suncoast Humane Society will take place on Wed, Jan 23 at the Boca Grande Club’s newly remodeled clubhouse restaurant. The event will kick off the fifteenth annual Professional Tennis Exhibition Series. Dinner will be presented at three food buffet stations with a variety of offerings, and a Silent Auction will take place with items such as wine packages, fishing trips, and artwork. Funds raised will be used to support programs such as pet adoption, low-cost spaying and neutering, affordable preventive health care, and community education. Tickets are $100, which includes dinner, beverages, music and dancing. Dress is elegant casual. Tickets are available at the Boca Grande Club, The Gasparilla Inn and Club, The Boca Bay Pass Club, and Suncoast Humane Society. 474•7884 or www.humane.org.

Diane Rose-Solomon, a certified humane educational specialist, will appear at two fundraising events in Sarasota on Jan 20 to promote animal adoptions, awareness, and humane education. Diane will be reading her new book “JJ The American Street Dog and How He Came to Live in Our House”, a children’s book that promotes animal adoption and teaches about animal homelessness, the importance of spaying and neutering, and the basics of animal care. Readings will take place at Nate’s Place, 8437 Cooper Creek Blvd, Sara, 1-3 pm and at 2nd Chance Boutique Humane Society Lakewood Ranch, 6293 Lake Osprey Dr, Sara, from 3:30-5:30 pm. Both readings are free.
