It is with a heavy heart that I write this, but our friend Diesel, the bulldog at Dearborn Street Jewelry and Repair, has passed away. Angela of Dearborn Street Jewelry and Repair has written about her time with Diesel, and would like to share it with everyone:
On Monday, January 14, I lost my buddy, Diesel.
You came to us in April 2008 on a Saturday night during “Cruizin’ on Dearborn”. Thank you for filling the void in Ray’s life, and you brightened up everyone who passed by or stepped into the store.
I remember walking you on the street and teaching you about all the sights and sounds of being on a busy street. You learned that walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, and strollers were nothing to be afraid of, and that they usually came with people who will give you a pat and kind word. Some would laugh and most would say, “Now that is a face you gotta love!”
I cleaned your wrinkles, ears, and even the skin between your toes. It was always my private time with you – my way to tell you I loved you. I will miss that.
Your friend Cathy always shared her lunch with you and gave you more treats than you really needed, but that was her way to say she loved you too.
When you wanted to go for a walk, we would grab some bags and head out. We would clean up after you and you would look around as if to say, “they don’t mind, they love me”. We really loved to walk you and show you off. I will miss your heavy breathing and how you would drag your feet (we could never sneak up on anyone).
Thank you for accepting my dog Forrest and showing him to not be afraid of the noise and commotion of Dearborn. You even showed him which trees were your favorite to leave a message.
I am glad that I could be there for you at the end. Rest in peace my buddy. I love you.
