Photos and video from the punk era featured at Ringling

August 13-Sept Ringling College of Art & Design’s Selby Galleries I & ll will host two exhibitions titled “Low Fidelity: Still Photographs by Bobby Grossman 1975-1983” and “Underground Forces: Target Video 1977-1984”. These each offer a distinctive perspective on the “Punk” music scene through the lens of photographer Bobby Grossman and Target Video’s Co-Founder Jill Hoffman-Kowal. Both had rare opportunities to document the musicians and celebrities associated with this unique time period in modern music history. Subjects included the Talking Heads, as well as folks like Andy Warhol, David Bowie, William Burroughs, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Debbie Harry (pictured), Fab 5 Freddy, and others, at places like CBGB and the Mudd Club.
Attendees are encouraged to come in their favorite “punk” fashions.) Selby Gallery is located on the Ringling College of Art and Design campus, one-half block east of 2700 N Tamiami Trail on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, Sara. 359•7563 or 351•5100 or www.ringling.edu/selbygallery.
