Kids' Needs asking for public help

Local kids need your help! A weak economy continues in our area. Nearly 60% of Englewood’s 3900 public school students are on free or reduced lunch programs, 49 are identified as homeless, and 175 participate in ‘weekend backpack’ food programs.  Kids’ Needs - Greater Englewood, Inc.  requests your help as they work to keep these children safe and in school. Pictured are YMCA Trainers Mandy DiDonato and Tony Babington with YMCA Membership Director and Kids’ Needs Advisory Committee member Marcia Ziegler helping Kids’ Needs by collecting donations for local children. New or nearly new shoes and clothing, and new toiletries and school supplies for boys and girls in grades K-12 may be dropped off at one of the many donation boxes located throughout the Englewood area including at the YMCA, The Links Golf Course, Rotonda, and The Key Agency, S. McCall Rd. Donated items are distributed to closets in each of the five Englewood public schools and in the newly opened ‘Store Front’. Tax deductible monetary donations are used for school meal assistance, to send food home for weekends, to help dual enrolled students (Lemon Bay HS and culinary or nursing school) pay for uniforms and certification exams, and to purchase necessary items for qualified children.  Mail checks to: Kids’ Needs, 1201 S. McCall Rd., Englewood, FL 34223. Info school counselors or www.kidsneedsenglewood.org.
